Poetry that is thematically linked is not an unusual occurrence. Although written nearly twenty years apart, A. E. Housman's " To an Athlete Dying YoungвЂќ, and Wilfred Owen's " Anthem to get Doomed YouthвЂќ, are samples of how poetry have similar themes. Even though Housman's work is about a new athlete which has passed, and Owen's is all about the loss of life of youthful soldiers, they can be linked by the theme of young death. Besides their comparable themes, the two of these works discuss many literary components.

This line evokes images of those who mourned for the dying soldiers, specifically the women left behind. Housman uses images so the reader can see the glory from the runner.
